Thread not staying in place

I have been trying to use the punch needle but my thread want stay in when I pull needle back out. I keep the needle on the fabric and slide it over like you told me to do. But I find the thread jumps out out with the needle. Also, the bottom of my project doesn't look as smooth and finished like yours did. How do I keep it from raveling out?

Hey, "Struggling"!  Usually, the reason your stitches aren't smooth and even is because you are doing one of the following:

a.) you are not "scratching" across the surface of your fabric when you punch all the way to the base of the needle and pull out.  You are instead pulling the needle away from the fabric before plunging back into it.

b.)  something is holding the thread while you stitch (is your arm resting on the thread?  Is it caught between your wrist and the embroidery hoop?)

Remember - punch needle is a very relaxed art.  The reason it's so very appealing is because it requires very little thought and just plunging the needle in and out of fabric....ahhh....relaxation.
